Asolo Visit
Things to do in Asolo?
Review and Itinerary by Baldassarri Giuseppe from Asolo
°-°
Asolo is a charming town located in the Veneto region of Italy, known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and stunning views. To fully explore Asolo and its surroundings, I recommend spending at least one full day in the town. However, if you want to delve deeper into the local culture and visit nearby attractions, extending your stay to two or three days would be ideal. Here's a suggested itinerary to discover the attractions, local food and wine specialties, transportation options, and accommodation in Asolo:
Day 1:
1. Morning:
- Start your day by visiting the Rocca di Asolo, a medieval fortress perched on top of a hill. Explore the castle's grounds and enjoy panoramic views of the town and the surrounding countryside.
- Take a stroll through the historic center of Asolo, known for its well-preserved architecture and charming streets. Visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Piazza Garibaldi, the main square of the town.
2. Lunch:
- Enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the local trattorias or osterias in Asolo. Sample traditional dishes such as risotto, homemade pasta, and local cured meats.
3. Afternoon:
- Visit the Villa Contarini, a magnificent Palladian villa located just outside Asolo. Explore the villa's gardens and admire the elegant architecture.
- Take a short drive or hike to the nearby village of Maser and visit the Villa Barbaro. This UNESCO World Heritage site is another impressive Palladian villa designed by Andrea Palladio. Don't miss the beautiful frescoes by Paolo Veronese inside the villa.
4. Evening:
- Return to Asolo and enjoy a relaxing evening in one of the town's cafes or wine bars. Asolo is known for its excellent Prosecco wine, so be sure to sample a glass or two.
Day 2 (Optional):
If you decide to extend your stay in Asolo, you can consider the following activities:
1. Morning:
- Take a scenic drive through the Prosecco wine region, located just north of Asolo. Visit some of the local wineries and enjoy wine tastings. Don't forget to try the renowned sparkling Prosecco wine.
2. Lunch:
- Stop at a local agriturismo or trattoria in the Prosecco region for a traditional lunch. Taste local specialties like cicchetti (small appetizers), local cheeses, and cured meats.
3. Afternoon:
- Visit the town of Bassano del Grappa, located about 30 kilometers from Asolo. Explore the historic center, walk across the iconic Ponte degli Alpini bridge, and visit the Poli Grappa Museum to learn about the production of the famous Italian spirit.
4. Evening:
- Return to Asolo and enjoy a final evening in the town. Wander through the streets, visit artisan shops, and savor a delicious dinner at a local restaurant.
Transportation:
To reach Asolo, the most convenient option is to rent a car. Asolo is located approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Venice, and having a car will give you the flexibility to explore the surrounding areas. You can rent a car at Venice Marco Polo Airport or in Venice itself. Alternatively, you can take a train from Venice to Castelfranco Veneto or Montebelluna and then take a taxi or local bus to Asolo.
Accommodation:
Asolo offers a range of accommodation options, including boutique hotels, bed and breakfasts, and agriturismi. Some popular choices include Hotel Villa Cipriani, Albergo Al Sole, and Hotel Asolo. Make sure to book your accommodation in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons.
Remember to check the latest travel advisories and opening hours of attractions before your trip, as they may be subject to change. Enjoy your visit to Asolo, a true gem in the Veneto region!
