Cupra Alta, the medieval Marano, is the ancient and suggestive village still surrounded by walls with square and polyhedral towers built in the century. XV by Francesco Sforza. The view over the sea and the Riviera delle Palme is splendid.
Among the characteristic alleys enlivened by flowered balconies, past Porta Maggiore or Marina, there are the churches of the Suffragio (18th century) and of the Annunziata (in the latter there is a permanent Poliscenic Nativity scene of Spanish art by Paolo Fontana), the Palazzo Brancadoro built by the Sforza, up to the Romanesque church of Santa Maria in Castello (1330), privately owned, in which frescoes of the sec. XIV-XVI, attributed to the school of Gentile da Fabriano. Nearby are the remains of the medieval fortress. Numerous finds from the Piceno, prehistoric and Roman eras are preserved in the Territory Museum.
