Autumn fruits
Intense orange in color when ripe, persimmons are very tasty fruits with very sweet pulp, similar to a soft cream, hence the scientific name diospiros, that is "bread of the gods" and contain many sugars. When they are still unripe, however, due to the high quantity of tannin, they retain a sour taste that "binds" the tongue, in fact it is said that "lappano". It is also called Lotus of Japan, Apple of the East and Tree of the seven virtues. The most common variety in Italy is the "Loto di Romagna".
