Pedaso Monte Serrone, 63827 Pedaso, Province of Fermo, Italy Monte Serrone is the high hill that surrounds Pedaso, a place where in the past the city inhabitants found refuge in case of attacks by Saracen soldiers. Despite the relative distance from the sea, it is also popular in summer and this thanks to the sea breeze that ensures coolness. It is located above "old" Pedaso and can be reached by taking the Panoramic Road. The Astronomical Observatory is located there. The history of Pedaso begins with the Greeks (the Pelasgians), then the Picenes and the Romans, as evidenced by some archaeological findings around the mouth and sides of the Aso river, the Roman ruins in the nearby mountain Villa and archaeological finds that still recover from the sea , testify to the civilizations that have alternated here. The barbarian invasions forced the population to find refuge in the nearby hill, called Monte Serrone. Subsequently, it became a Fermano castle on the coast and as such had the task of monitoring the Adriatic with a tower, used as a lighthouse since 1877. At the end of the eighteenth century, as a result of the continuous collapses of the long "La Cupa" houses due to the landslide of the hill, development began at the bottom, along the sea.
