Grottammare medieval village and the many stairways.
The ancient village was located on the hill for defensive purposes and the imposing Castle served as a watchtower. Grottammare surprises the visitor for the splendid view of the Adriatic Riviera, for the luxuriant vegetation in which the orange trees stand out and for the charm of the views of the ancient village. The dense urban plot in which narrow streets, alleys, underpasses and stairways wind, form, thanks to the surrounding landscape, a wonderful setting.
There are many stairways, especially at the entrance of the village, each with its own dominant feature: in particular the steep staircase, from the right side of the Church of Santa Lucia which reaches up to Porta Castello, one of the three entrances of the town, up to to a suggestive place where you have the whole vision of the fortification and higher up where you can see breathtaking views up to the beaches and the sea below.
