Change tourism to exit the #Coronavirus crisis.
1 - SUPPORT POLICIES
Governments need to define policies that take into account the impact of climate change and that considers tourism as a sector that needs long-term planning. Agreements between competent authorities are needed and expert advice needs to be considered when defining development and marketing strategies.
2 - EDUCING TRAVELERS
One of the biggest problems is that travelers are still not as responsible as they should be. For example, few ask questions about the impact of structures such as resorts or large villages on the population and the local environment; in many cases, green practices such as energy-saving are flaunted, but in essence, the existence of such structures has been damage to the environment and people of which the traveler has no news.
3 - THE OPINION OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES
Local communities are among the stakeholders to consider when talking about tourist areas, but there are not only them. Planning also means this: assessing the impact of tourism when deciding to make an area a "destination".
4 - WORKER RIGHTS
Those who work in the world of tourism must have their rights respected and work in suitable conditions. Unfortunately, this is a sector in which precariousness is the rule also due to seasonality and deep-rooted practices. A turning point in this area would also be a turning point towards more sustainable tourism.
5 - INVOLVE THE ASSOCIATIONS
Environmentalists are not a "thorn in the side" as they are often labeled. Indeed, they play a valuable role when it comes to collecting reports, abuses, crimes that damage the environment and people. Listening to them and involving them can help to "clean up" the sector.
We begin to propose ourselves differently, we are unique, let's value it.
