Piedmont, a region of Italy bordering France and Switzerland, sits at the foot of the Alps. It’s known for sophisticated cuisine and wines such as Barolo. Turin, the capital, has abundant baroque architecture and the monumental landmark Mole Antonelliana, with its soaring spire. The Automobile Museum is devoted to Turin’s main industry. The Egyptian Museum displays archaeological and anthropological collections. Piedmont is the land of the mountains: it is surrounded on three sides by the Alpine chain, which right here includes the highest peaks and the largest glaciers in Italy.

Monviso, the Piedmont side of Monte Rosa and the other spectacular hills offer landscapes of singular beauty; There are also numerous ski areas, including the Milky Way and Sestriere, which welcome winter sports enthusiasts with their modern equipment.
