Why is it called Villa Bonaparte? The original name was Villa Caterina, from Caterina di Wurtemberg, consort of Girolamo Buonaparte who had it built. Jerome, "former king of Westphalia, who, after the battle of Waterloo, took the supreme command of the French army, with whom he gloriously fought in that memorable and unfortunate battle, which finally ended the wonderful fortune of the great emperor", chose Porto San Giorgio, then Porto di Fermo, to let you build a sumptuous villa. The motive that drives Girolamo to have a dwelling in the Fermo area is essentially dictated by the heart; in fact, he fell in love with the marquise Anna Azzolino, "who was at that time one of the most beautiful, and, without contrast, the most lovable gentlewoman of Fermo".
