Each point of the earth's surface passes a single parallel, used in geography to establish the position of a given location through the so-called latitude. Being in the precise point where a parallel passes, therefore, means being "tied" by an invisible thread to all the other places that are in the same condition. And from Vladivostok to Milwaukee, from Grottammare to Sapporo, the 43rd Parallel of the northern hemisphere passes. Much more than simple geographical curiosity, so much so that in Grottammare (in the province of Ascoli Piceno) on the Adriatic coast, they decided to identify the precise point where the 43rd Parallel crosses the territory. What binds Komiza to each other on the island of Vis in Croatia, the Spanish Finisterre, Milwaukee and Buffalo in the United States, Sukhumi on the Black Sea, Makhachkala on the Caspian Sea and Vladivostok on the Pacific Ocean in Russia, Sapporo in Japan, the destinations of the great pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela, Lourdes, Assisi and Medjugorje? They are all places crossed by the 43rd Parallel of the northern hemisphere. Among these places, there is also Grottammare, in the Marche region.
