San Giovanni Battista Church Grottammare, Piazza Peretti, 63066 Grottammare AP, Marches, Italy.
The church has a sober and rigorous facade, both for its architectural style and for its construction material. The façade is concluded by a triangular tympanum and presents the traditional band order, highlighted by a molded frame and slightly projecting pilasters that climb up to the pediment and that divide the facade into three parts. The church houses the Sistino Museum of Grottammare, one of the sites of the network of the Sistini Museums of the Piceno. The museum contains paintings, furnishings, ecclesiastical furnishings and paper works, especially from the churches of Grottammare. Among the exhibited works, we can remember a Sacred Conversation by Vincenzo Pagani (Monterubbiano 1490 ca.-1568), which was made for the Church of Sant'Agostino in Grottammare, two tables by Vittore Crivelli (Venice 1440 ca.- Fermo 1502 ca.), representing San Rocco and San Sebastiano, and a Madonna del Carmelo, attributed to Ubaldo Ricci (1669-1732). The church also preserves two important Sistine gifts which underline the bond of Pope Sixtus V with his native land: a bronze medal commemorating the construction of the Church of Santa Lucia, commissioned by the Pope, and a chalice belonging to Felice Peretti when he covered the episcopal office in Sant'Agata dei Goti, in Rome.
