Castel San Giorgio, Corso Castel S. Giorgio, 63822, Porto San Giorgio, Province of Fermo, Fermano, FM, Marches, Italy. The origins of the current inhabited center seem to date back to the 11th century, when Venetian or Dalmatian fishermen settled on the hill, a natural defense. Castel San Giorgio, from the name of the fortress that dominated it, in the mid-13th century an alliance was established between Venice and Fermo, which favored the development of commercial traffic headed by Castel San Giorgio. In 1267 the mayor of Fermo and the future Doge of Venice Lorenzo Tiepolo transformed the port into an equipped and military port of call; he also built a fortress, which he would take the name, to watch over the Saracen incursions from the sea.
